VITA’S IMPACT ON HERNANDO
Enhancing Awareness & Exceeding Last Year’s Numbers!

As this year’s tax filing season came to an end on April 15, 2015, United Way of Hernando County’s VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Volunteers had much to celebrate. Not only did VITA enhance local awareness and recruit four new tax preparation sites in Hernando County this year, but VITA services filed over 911 tax returns (FREE of charge), compared to 810 the previous year! The VITA Production Report also showed $864,149 in total refund amounts and a total of $255,034 in Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC). With tax returns costing residents as high as $250 on average to file, free tax assistance resulted in more than $1,091,899 returning to our community- those are dollars to spent on covering childcare expenses and transportation costs, paying bills, purchasing household necessities, as well as saving for the future! What a huge impact on our economy.
