United Way announces 2015-2016 Bright Apple Award Winner

Spring Hill, FL – (January 20, 2016) – United Way of Hernando County would like to congratulate Explorer K-8 for being announced the 2015-2016 Bright Apple Award WINNER!

For the past 5 years, United Way has proudly awarded an individual Hernando County school with the Bright Apple Traveling Trophy, in appreciation for their community support and United Way participation.

"I am so proud and blessed to have such a caring and dedicated staff. They always do whatever it takes to make a difference in our school and community!,” Barbara Kidder, Explorer K-8’s Principal shared. “They are the Bobcat Nation and proud to partner with the United Way!"

Year after year, Explorer K-8 has strengthened their partnership with United Way, but in 2015 they went above and beyond!

  • Explorer K-8 was one of the first Hernando County Schools to become a FREE VITA Site for parents & staff.
  • 25 Explorer K-8 teachers participated in Stuff the Bus and advocated for 66 hours.
  • Explorer K-8 faculty increased their Community Investment Campaign from 7 to 19 pledges resulting in $1,100!
  • Students submitted artwork for United Way’s holiday coloring contest. EK8 had a winner!
