Independence Regained through Impact Solutions

United Way Invests in Independent Living Skills

On Wednesday, September 9, 2015 United Way of Hernando County enjoyed a delicious meal prepared by the Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind's Independent Living Skills Graduates.  Visually impaired clients freshly cooked Swedish Meatballs and Pasta Salad as a congratulatory lunch to celebrate their hard work for graduating from the Independent Living Skills program! The United Way often attends Lighthouse graduations simply for the inspiring stories of how this program makes a difference in local lives and to personally witness where their invested dollars go.

In honor of such a large graduation class, United Way joined them for lunch and proudly presented a $15,000 contribution through the UW Community Investment Fund. Support was awarded to the Lighthouse to assure that visually impaired and blind residents are given the opportunity to regain independence and confidence through the Independent Living Skills program.

The graduates from this program gain knowledge of how to cope with vision loss, become skilled at incorporating everyday tips to improve their cooking skills and general living habits, and utilize enhanced technology.
