The Arc Nature Coast serves over 200 adults with intellectual & developmental disabilities (Autism, Down Syndrome, etc.) through a variety of programs; from life skills and residential, to employment and transportation. 

Volunteer Opportunities include:

The Community Food Bank of Citrus County acquires nutritious quality food and distributes the food to 47 different agencies.  Food Pantries, Shelters, Churches and soup kitchens.

Volunteer Opportunities include:

  • Picking fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Sorting canned goods, fresh vegetables and meat for distribution
  • Organizing special events, etc.

Dawn Center of Hernando County is a domestic & sexual violence service agency. The Shelter is open 24 hours a day and seven days a week for women and children that are victims of 

physical, mental or sexual abuse.

Habitat for Humanity of Hernando County is part of a global, nonprofit housing organization operated on Christian principles that seeks to put God's love into action by building homes, communities and hope.  Habitat for Humanity of Hernando County is dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally and worldwide through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes: by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.  Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all.

Hernando County Fire Corps's Mission is to render support services to Hernando County Fire Rescue and other emergency organizations in Hernando County. HCFC's Fire Safety Smoke Trailer goes to county schools to teach children how to exit a smoke filled house. Our members come from all walks of life. They include retired nurses, volunteer firemen, teachers, truck drivers and more. They represent Hernando County. All members are trained to be able to carry out Hernando County Fire Corps commitment to the County.

Volunteer Opportunities include:
Many of our members have professional training and provide much of the training required. We provide first aide at many county events and bring our Fire Safety Smoke Trailer to many schools, to educate children is fire safety.

Jericho Road Ministries is a faith-based rescue mission and shelter which requires references on all their volunteers.

The Life Center (TLC) of Hernando believes everyone deserves a home, especially at-risk young mothers and their infant children. Right now in Hernando County, many young homeless moms are living with their babies in unstable conditions. Program includes life skills.
TLC is a residential home.

Volunteer Oppotunities/Positions may include:
The Life Center is in need of instructors for the following life skill classes:

  • Money Management
  • Child Development
  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Food Management
  • Weed Playground
  • Assistant Life Skill instructors to help watch children
  • Offer accounting skills for an annual audit
  • Offer professional case management skills
  • Offer haircuts or manicures

Assistant instructors needed for childcare and back up.
This is a 2 hour, once a month commitment on either a Tuesday or Thursday night from 7pm-8pm.

Lighthouse for the Visually Impaired and Blind is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization serving visually impaired residents of Hernando, Pasco, and Citrus Counties. The Lighthouse provides free training that helps people experiencing vision loss become more independent.

The Pay It Forward Farm (PIFF) is a multi-cultural organization that assists single mothers and their children on their journeys toward a fulfilling and sustainable lifestyle. This is accomplished through a variety of volunteer and educational programs.

People Helping People (PHP) in Hernando County, Inc.   is an interfaith community established to provide food, clothing, and other basic necessities to those individuals in Hernando County, FL who are hungry or struggling in today's difficult economic environment. PHP offers four targeted programs to accomplish its mission: SUNDAY BLESSINGS program, SENIOR BLESSINGS program, WEEKEND BLESSINGS program, and NEIGHBORHOOD BLESSINGS program.

People Helping People is looking for a few volunteers with some technical knowledge and computer skills.
Volunteer Opportunities:

  • Correspondence Secretary
    -The applicant would need basic computer skills with knowledge of word processing and mail merge. This individual would be responsible for sending out donation and grant acknowledgements and letters of appreciation.
  • Bookkeeper
    -Looking for someone familiar with Quickbooks to keep track of financial record keeping.
  • Customer Relationship Manager
    -Someone who knows the program or would be willing to learn it.

Volunteer hours would be very flexible and could be done at one's home. In all cases, PHP would provide some training and appropriate software.

The Retired Senior Volunteer Program  is a Senior Corporation Sponsored program through a national federal grant. Our mission is to recruit senior volunteers (age 55+) to be placed in non profitassignments throughout the county.

Volunteer Opportunities:

  • "Goodwill BookWorks" program
    -Volunteers read to pre-school children at local child care facilities and Head Start Programs. After reading, each child is given a personalized book to take home. Program coordinator will accommodate volunteers time needs. No background checks necessary.
  • Big Brother Big Sisters School Lunch Time program
    -Volunteer meets one on one with a matched boy or girl once per week at school during lunch time. This gives the child an independent non biased person to talk with. Each assignment lasts for the school year. (Background check is required)
