Students Pledge for Kindness Week: November 18th-22nd

Powell Middle School and their students entered Kindness Week with activities during November 18th-22nd. Powell’s emphasis was to identify Random Acts of Kindness and recognize those that were seen carrying out a good deed.

Activities included: spotting unconditional kindness to another, wearing white to symbolize peace, cooperatively drawing Acts of Kindness seen or have done and writing an essay on the best thing that ever happened to them. Lastly, students took the “I Pledge”; committing themselves to follow rules of enhancing the lives of other students and people with needs.

The “I Pledge” was created by a competition of four Advanced Language Classes. The selection of the winning pledge was transcribed to a scroll and handed out to the entire school. Upon committing to sign, the students were awarded a United Way “LIVE UNITED” bracelet. Over 700 students agreed to demonstrate Kindness daily. The pledges were mounted on each of the classroom’s wall as a reminder of Kindness. These pledges will continue to help students see Kindness as an ongoing life process.
