Winding Waters K-8 Accepts Bright Apple

United Way Presents 7th Bright Apple Award to Leading Hernando County School

Spring Hill, FL – (April 24, 2017) – United Way of Hernando County is proud to announce Winding Waters K-8 (WWK8) as the winners of the 2016 Bright Apple Award. United Way presented the Bright Apple Traveling Trophy to WWK8 at a morning faculty meeting on April 24th. With such a welcoming atmosphere, the teachers were excited to receive this award and be recognized for their efforts in helping the community.

Each year, the Bright Apple Award is presented to a Hernando County School for their dedication, hard work, community support and United Way participation. This is United Way’s 7th year honoring a leading school in Hernando.

With the K8 facility only being 6 years old, United Way believes their vibrant team has contributed to making a significant impact not only in their classrooms but in their community with a heavy focus on implementing PBiS (Positive Behaviors in School). This past year, WWK8 had 10 teachers volunteer for Stuff the Bus and also increased their Community Investment Campaign to 14 pledges resulting in $1,300.

“United Way is privileged to work closely with such caring educators,” said United Way’s Executive Director, Angela Bonfardino. “We both share a vision of a stronger community and we thank Winding Waters K-8 for recognizing the local need by choosing to help United Way focus on these very important initiatives; Health, Education, Financial Stability, and Basic Needs. Winding Waters K-8 knows what it means to LIVE UNITED.”

A special thank you to Principal Janet Cerro for her outstanding leadership and to all Winding Waters K-8 teachers and faculty for going above and beyond this year.
