AT&T Employees Invest $4,500 in United Way

AT&T INVESTS $4,500 IN UNITED WAY!
This contribution will support United Way of Hernando County’s Community Investment Initiatives: Health, Education and Financial Stability

SPRING HILL, June 18, 2013 — For over 60 years, AT&T and the AT&T Foundation have been strong supporters of the United Way both at the national and local levels.  Today, AT&T continues this legacy of support through a contribution of $4,500 to United Way of Hernando County.  In 2013 alone, AT&T gave $5.49 million to 562 local United Ways across the country.

United Way of Hernando County will use the contribution to support programs that create long lasting change in the local community. The United Way is dedicated to improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good, as is evident from the work the United Way of Hernando County is doing in Florida.  For example, in the past year, the organization funded a multitude of local non-profit agencies with multiple health, education and financial stability programs and various in-house community impact programs.

Kathy Jones, Executive Director of United Way of Hernando County expresses, “United Way of Hernando County is continuously focusing on creating partnerships and mobilizing our community to seek sustainable solutions to our most pressing problems.  Whether it is a neighbor without health insurance, a victim of abuse, or someone struggling with mental illness or an addiction, United Way’s Health initiative works to ensure everyone has access to affordable and quality care.  United Way’s Education initiative focuses on supportive communities, effective schools and strong families through programs encouraging everything from early learning to adult education.  United Way’s Financial Stability initiative promotes community-change strategies to help families meet their basic needs, while gaining the financial capability to plan for, and accomplish, their long-term financial goals.”

In addition to this contribution, each year AT&T employees take part in an employee giving campaign that provides millions of dollars to the United Way.  In 2012, AT&T employees, including employee members of the Communication Workers of America, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the Telecommunications International Union, pledged $33.7 million through this campaign.

“AT&T shares United Way’s commitment to strengthening communities and improving lives,” said Matt Mucci, Regional Director – External Affairs of AT&T Services, Inc.  “The United Way of Hernando County support for programs with proven results in our community improves the lives of our citizens by connecting them with resources and expertise that helps them succeed.”
