Kickball Tournament Kicks Literacy Into High Gear

United Way Hosts 3rd Annual Kickball Tournament

Spring Hill, FL – (March 2, 2018) United Way of Hernando County proudly hosted their 3rd Annual "KICK" Start to Early Literacy Kickball Tournament at Anderson Snow Park on Saturday, February 17, 2018. This year’s event was a huge success and had a great turnout of friends, families, and community members who came on out that day to support United Way and the 16 teams competing for the Ultimate Traveling Trophy.

At the end of the day, Withlacoochee River Electric Cooperative’s “WRECing Crew” and Patriot Lending’s “We’ve Got The Runs” battled it out during the championship game. WRECing Crew pulled threw and proudly took home the Ultimate Traveling Trophy and the title of 2018’s “KICK” Start to Early Literacy Champs!

Proceeds from team registration fees, BBQ sales, raffle prizes, and donations benefited United Way's Dolly Parton Imagination Library program which supplies Hernando children with a free book every month until the age of five. These books are distributed at no cost to the families, regardless of their economic status and sponsorship opportunities are available. This program currently has 1,600 children enrolled and as its popularity continues to grow, so does Hernando’s waiting list and need for additional funding. United Way is happy to announce that this year’s event will provide 1,852 additional books for the enrolled children.
